Oral Hygiene Visit

Back to Overview of Services

One of the most important things you can do for your overall health is to make time to get your teeth cleaned and checked at least twice a year. Most insurance plans will cover these visits because they have found that patients who get a cleaning and exam every 6 months spend much less money over the years on dental care than those who put off treatment until something hurts.

Children

We love seeing children! Your child should be introduced to our office when they are between 1 and 2 years of age. Our dental hygienist will show parents how to optimally take care of their children's teeth. Depending upon how your children respond, we can polish their teeth, check for decay and apply a fluoride varnish to protect and strengthen their teeth.

Adults

Adults should have current full mouth x-rays taken before their first dental cleaning and exam. This will give Dr. Bailey and Maureen, our hygienist, a better idea of any tooth infection, gum disease, decay or abnormalities.

Maureen will take before and after photos of your teeth with our intraoral camera. She will go over proper oral hygiene care, use a probe to check for periodontal disease and thoroughly clean your teeth. Maureen also uses a small laser instrument called a Diagnodent to scan your teeth for hidden decay.

After your cleaning, Dr. Bailey will do an oral cancer screening, check your x-rays and provide a thorough exam. Once this is complete he will take his time discussing any necessary dental treatment that will be beneficial to you.

Seniors

It is especially important for senior citizens to get their teeth cleaned and checked at least twice a year. Severe gum disease has been associated with health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. In addition many medications can cause dry mouth which can lead to multiple large cavities. Even patients with dentures or partial dentures should come in twice a year to be examined, check the fit of their denture, and have their denture professionally cleaned. As with all our patients, seniors will be treated with patience, care and concern.

No matter what your age, you will be treated well. We are just a phone call away!
